Have you ever wished you’d been born in the days of pirate son the high seas with their chests full of gold and their secret treasure hiding spots? Did you ever wish you’d find an old parchment map with a trail leading to a big black “X” where you would find a hidden stash of loot?
If these have been your fantasies then you’re in luck. Although the days of high seas swashbuckling buccaneers is over, there is a new hobby that’s just as great if not better. I’m talking about Geocaching!

The age the global positioning system has spawned this exciting pursuit in which you get to employ your keenest wits, your thirst for adventure, and the latest technological gadgets. Geocaching is essentially a global sport of hiding and discovering treasures of all sorts. Using a GPS unit, geocacher’s track down a hidden stash of goodies and then report their findings to others on the online geocaching community. If you haven’t yet heard of this incredible game, then you’re in for a treat because geocaching is exploding in popularity right now.

Cache’s are usually placed in an air tight waterproof container and hidden discreetly. Fair play calls for them to be put in places which won’t cause seekers to trespass and they shouldn’t be placed in places where they might be confused for a bomb or other dangerous hazard.

When a searcher uncovers the cache, he or she then logs their discovery in the book, takes the stash and leaves a new stash in its place. There are many variations and spinoffs of the sport, but those are the basics.
So grab your GPS and get out there and join the fun!
